History

The story of Mandeville goes back to the 1830s when Bernard Xavier de Marigny, a descendant of a prominent New Orleans family, bought thousands of acres on the north shore of Lake Pontchartrain and built the first sugar mill in the area. He developed it into a resort for wealthy New Orleanians looking to escape the summer heat of their home city.

Today, the city is a popular getaway for locals and tourists alike who enjoy its restaurants, shops, nature outposts, festivals and one-of-a-kind attractions.
